I design artificial intelligence and technology systems to better see and understand the brain. My work spans deep learning for brain tumor and whole-brain segmentation, immersive VR tools for surgical planning, and new approaches to understanding the reliability of brain imaging models.

My mother would often experience severe headaches and, out of fear, frequently got MRI scans to rule out the presence of tumors. Watching the anxiety and costs surrounding such diagnostics made me wonder how technology could make this process faster, more reliable, and accessible.

After exploring multiple online machine learning courses from Stanford, I became deeply obsessed with how machine learning models could be applied to improve pre-operative surgical analysis. I read a little over a hundred papers and found the research frontier focused on primary, while brain metastasis remains understudied due to limited data.

2024 Alameda County Science & Engineering Fair 2nd Round

Built a novel deep-learning architecture for brain metastasis segmentation. I published this work in the 2024 IEEE International Conference on Computing and Machine Intelligence and flew to Michigan to present my work.

At IEEE ICMI I spoke with researchers and was able to identify a gap in current research.

The Gap: While frontier research was primarily focused on optimizing the performance of models, these accuracy improvements didn't translate to usage in clinics and by neurosurgeons.

Northern JSHS Finalist Presentation

I cold-emailed 100+ neurosurgeons and used their feedback to design a dual-segmentation model with anatomical context.

I built a full MRI-to-VR pipeline that converts segmented brains into 3D models for interactive viewing on the Microsoft HoloLens.

I published and presented this work at another international IEEE conference. In addition, I became a Gold Medalist & Finalist (20/2800+ Projects) at the International Genius Olympiad Science Innovation Fair.

International Research Olympiad Club @ QLS

I founded the International Research Olympiad Club to give other students a way to foster curiosity and explore cutting-edge science.

We taught club members how to conduct literature review and efficiently synthesize information.

I hosted monthly seminars featuring experts from Caltech researchers to nuclear physicists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). These sessions on computational biology to particle physics demystified research to the club.

The largest milestone was hosting a schoolwide research conference featuring a keynote speaker and a panel of researchers.
